Three King Grade Genes, Gene Inheritance
The Evolution Cube flickered with a dim blue glow, consuming vast amounts of Spirit Power and channeling it into the fourth segment of his Gene Chain.
The next moment, the Flicker gene began to change.
A faint numbness spread through his body as the Boss Grade Transcendent Gene evolved to Chief Grade — the process completed quickly.
Transcendent Gene: Enhanced Flicker.
Lu Yuan didn't stop. He continued the evolution.
Chief Grade Transcendent Gene evolving to Lord Grade.
At this stage, his body began to register some pain. Even so, having already broken through to Third-rank — and having undergone another sublimation of his life essence during the Evolution Cube's metamorphosis — the pain was relatively mild, a faint undercurrent more than anything.
The evolution lasted a long time. When the dim blue light finally faded, it was complete.
His Transcendent Gene shifted once more.
Lord Grade Spatial Type Gene: Space Walk.
At Lord Grade, the Spatial Type gene's potency had matched that of his previous Transcendent Genes. Similar to Mechanical Control, it boosted all attributes across the board — but the enhancement was far greater than when he had first inscribed Mechanical Control. In nearly every aspect, it matched the primary enhancement of his other Lord Grade genes.
Even for that boost alone, inscribing the Spatial Type gene was more than worth it — and that wasn't even counting the Combat Technique it contained. Simply put, the Spatial Type gene was truly formidable.
Lu Yuan rested briefly. Once his body and mind had recovered to peak condition, he drew a deep breath and began the final evolution.
Lord Grade to King Grade.
The dim blue light flickered once more, and the evolution began.
Lu Yuan's face turned white as a sheet. The pain was excruciating — worlds apart from the agony of evolving from Chief Grade to Lord Grade.
As the Transcendent Gene transformed within his Gene Chain, every cell in his body seemed to undergo minute changes. Sweat laced with streaks of blood seeped from his pores continuously, until he was nearly dyed red from head to toe.
The evolution dragged on for what felt like an eternity. When the pain finally faded, he was completely covered in a mixture of blood and sweat, a thick crust dried across his skin.
He moved, and the crust shattered, revealing snow-white skin beneath.
In that moment, a strange flash of silver-white light passed through his normally jet-black eyes, and his entire presence grew ethereal — somehow less anchored to the world than before.
Lu Yuan looked down, clenched his fist, then sent a thought rippling outward.
The space around his palm warped in an uncanny way.
This wasn't a Combat Technique. It was instinct — the natural gift of his King Grade gene.
After inscribing it, his sensitivity to space had sharpened dramatically. It was a peculiar sensation, impossible to fully put into words.
The Combat Technique innate to a Transcendent Gene was, in essence, an inborn talent. Before reaching King Grade, a Gene Warrior could only fight through that talent without truly grasping the nature of the power behind it. But at King Grade, something new had appeared within his Transcendent Gene — fragments of inherited knowledge, strange and deep.
He could now exert a measure of control over space itself. Limited as it was at King Grade, the control was slight — enough only to warp the space around him faintly, as he had just done. But it was a promising start.
*And this is only King Grade. What about Divine Grade?* Could he then manipulate space freely, as he wished? No longer confined to fighting through the gene's innate Combat Technique?
And if he inscribed ten different types of Transcendent Genes by then, it wouldn't just be space he could control — he might master other domains entirely.
Lu Yuan's gaze brightened with anticipation.
Of course, the innate Combat Technique from the Spatial Type gene was still enormously powerful and useful for the time being.
He now knew it instinctively: the Combat Technique granted by the King Grade Spatial Type gene.
Combat Technique: Space Teleportation.
Like Flicker, Enhanced Flicker, and Space Walk, it was not an offensive technique that weaponized spatial power — it was a movement technique.
Compared to Flicker, with his current strength, a single use of Space Teleportation could carry him roughly fifty kilometers.
He could move freely to any point within a fifty-kilometer radius.
For destinations within his line of sight or Spiritual Perception range, it was straightforward. But if he couldn't see or sense a location, he risked materializing inside a solid object — a stone wall, or even inside another Gene Warrior. What exactly would happen in such a scenario, he wasn't entirely sure. He had absolutely no desire to find out.
Additionally, Flicker had a slight delay between entering space and emerging at the destination coordinate. Because the King Grade gene possessed a far greater affinity for space, the delay with Space Teleportation was nearly negligible.
And that was just the standard form of the technique. Using his current understanding of spatial power, Lu Yuan could also pre-set a spatial anchor point in advance. Even across thousands or tens of thousands of kilometers, he could teleport directly to that designated location in an instant.
At his current level, he could only set a single anchor point — but as his strength grew, he would clearly be able to set more.
His eyes lit up.
*This is practically a god-tier travel technique.* Tens of thousands of kilometers in an instant — the convenience was staggering. *Perfect for someone as lazy as me.*
A shame he could only set one anchor point right now. Otherwise he'd plant them all across Great Qi Star.
That was Space Teleportation.
And the raw attribute boost from the King Grade Transcendent Gene itself was equally staggering. This single gene's enhancement was twice the combined total of all three of his previous Perfect Lord Grade genes — and this was an untampered King Grade gene. Once tempered to perfection, how powerful would it become?
*No wonder Yeye was so formidable.* Though, he understood his own Spatial Type Transcendent Gene should be somewhat stronger than Yeye's King Grade gene.
Of course, the Spirit Power consumed by the evolution had been immense. Evolving from Boss Grade to King Grade had devoured the equivalent of roughly three million Fourth-tier Spirit Crystals. Fortunately, he'd had Amy acquire a batch beforehand — otherwise he'd have had to recharge the Evolution Cube with Spirit Power Gene Fluid. Honestly, he preferred to save the Spirit Power Gene Fluid for cultivation. It was simply more efficient that way.
Lu Yuan reined in his excitement, took a bath, and had a servant replace the bloodied bedsheets.
He rested until both the pain and exhaustion had fully cleared, then began the next evolution.
This time, it was Mechanical Control.
The pain was somewhat milder than when he'd evolved Space Teleportation — partly because his physique had grown stronger, and partly because this gene was slightly less potent than the Spatial Type gene.
Soon, the evolution was complete. Lu Yuan had obtained his second King Grade Transcendent Gene.
Combat Technique: Mechanical Dominance.
Like Space Teleportation, evolving Mechanical Dominance to King Grade also flooded Lu Yuan with inherited knowledge. Where once he'd known next to nothing about machinery, he now felt he could repair a Lord Grade Mechanical Guardian.
This kind of knowledge inherited through a gene was remarkable.
*If I ever gave up on being a Gene Warrior, I could make decent money as a repairman.*
He couldn't help the wry thought — though of course he was only joking.
He was now fully capable of crafting some of the weaker mechanical armaments himself. However, he found he couldn't create mechanical lifeforms akin to the Lord Grade Mechanical Guardian, because that involved more than mechanical knowledge — it touched on the nature of life and the soul.
Lu Yuan was curious: if Mechanical Control continued evolving through the Evolution Cube, would its inheritance eventually extend into the domain of the soul? Worth looking forward to.
Beyond the inherited knowledge, Mechanical Dominance itself was far more powerful than Mechanical Control. The ceiling for controllable mechanical lifeforms had risen significantly — at his current early Third-rank level, he felt capable of controlling Third-rank King Grade mechanical lifeforms, and even Fourth-rank ones might be within reach.
Under the old Mechanical Control, he'd needed to continuously maintain the technique's effect on controlled lifeforms — once he stopped, they reverted to their original state. But Mechanical Dominance changed that entirely. The technique could plant a Seed of Dominance within a controlled mechanical lifeform's psyche using Mental Power. Even after he dropped the technique, the lifeform would continue to serve him as master — unless someone else erased the Seed.
His pulse quickened at that.
*I almost want to head to the border battlefield between the Human Race and the Mechanical Race right now.* This Transcendent Gene of his was practically the Mechanical Race's natural nemesis.
Beyond the Combat Technique and inherited knowledge, Mechanical Dominance still provided all-around attribute enhancements. Though slightly weaker in raw enhancement than Space Teleportation, it was still far superior to the combined effect of all three of his previous Lord Grade Transcendent Genes.
Just two King Grade evolutions, and his strength had been transformed beyond recognition.
Lu Yuan rested again and called a servant to change the bloodied sheets.
The servant who entered was an official Gene Warrior employed by Tianrao City — a beautiful young woman. She glanced at the blood-soaked white sheets, and her expression turned distinctly odd.
*What on earth is this guest doing in here? The amount of blood is absolutely insane — he really isn't going to die, is he? And this isn't even the first time! A few days ago he had a massive bleeding incident too. How is his body even holding up?*
She sneaked a glance at Lu Yuan, and at the sight of his handsome face, a faint blush crept across her cheeks. She quickly looked down and continued tidying up.
After the servant finished, Lu Yuan rested again to replenish his mental reserves and restore himself to peak condition.
Then he began evolving his third King Grade gene.
Lord Grade gene: Nature's Touch.
The same process, and the evolution went smoothly. After two consecutive King Grade evolutions, he could barely feel the pain anymore — whether because his physique had grown nearly tenfold stronger, or because he'd simply gone numb. Either way, it wasn't long before Nature's Touch evolved once more.
King Grade gene: Life Light.
As the King Grade gene settled in, its inherited knowledge washed into him as well. What surprised him was that this gene's inheritance concerned the power of life and nature.
Unlike the innate Combat Technique, he could only channel the faintest thread of life and natural force for now — enough to accelerate the growth of plants, for instance.
*Great. So if the mechanical repair career falls through, I can always get rich farming instead.*
He watched the pale-green energy swirling gently in his palm, felt the vitality it radiated, and couldn't help another wry thought.
As for the innate Combat Technique — Life Light — it was, naturally, a healing ability. And far more powerful than Nature's Touch. Even someone at death's door could be pulled back from the brink; as long as a single breath of life remained, death could be denied.
For Lu Yuan, it was certainly a useful Transcendent Gene. He just rarely had occasion to use its healing capabilities — his strength was simply high enough that he seldom found himself in situations requiring it.
When Lu Yuan called the servant to clean the bloodied sheets for the third time, she had gone completely desensitized.
After another rest, he prepared to evolve his fourth Transcendent Gene — but paused just before beginning.
He had, after all, purchased the Spatial Type Transcendent Gene, and since he'd broken through, it would need to be inscribed. But if he also evolved White Jade Spirit Body — which had always been openly displayed — then in the eyes of others, it would appear he'd inscribed two genes at once.
He thought it over and decided to save that evolution for later. At the very least, he could demonstrate Space Teleportation openly. If he evolved White Jade Spirit Body now, he wouldn't be able to show it off publicly — and that trade-off wasn't worth it.
Besides, the evolutions of Mechanical Dominance and Life Light had consumed a substantial number of Spirit Crystals, leaving the Evolution Cube's Spirit Power reserves depleted. Between the supply he'd stocked himself and the batch Amy had provided, he'd had roughly six million Fourth-tier Spirit Crystals in total — and a single wave of evolution had nearly exhausted it all. Mechanical Dominance and Life Light had consumed close to three million between them, though that was less than Space Teleportation had required.
But the returns were, naturally, immense.
Both Mechanical Dominance and Space Teleportation were all-around balanced enhancement genes, and every facet of his physique had improved nearly tenfold — with no remaining weak points. On top of that, Life Light's primary boost to Mental Power had supercharged his Spiritual Perception.
Though only at early Third-rank, when pushing his Spiritual Perception to the limit, his range now reached nearly ten kilometers. Within that range, Space Teleportation posed no risk of materializing inside another object — meaning he could teleport freely within at least ten kilometers.
With Space Teleportation at his disposal, and judging from his sparring experience with Si Tingyu and Li Qinghe, he felt confident that even Battle King Rank powerhouses posed no real danger to him. At the very minimum, if he wanted to flee, neither of them would be able to stop him.
As for Battle Sovereign or Battle Emperor level powerhouses — he'd never faced anyone at that level, and couldn't say whether he'd be able to escape. Perhaps at such heights they possessed special methods to prevent flight. Hard to say.
All in all, however, Lu Yuan was more than satisfied.
After all, he was nothing more than a fledgling who had just broken through to Third-rank Battle General — and yet even Battle King Rank warriors couldn't touch him. What was there to complain about?
He let out a long breath, stood up, and stretched. Breaking through and then evolving three genes in a row had thoroughly exhausted him.
Just then, he felt the Land of Origin's expulsion force. He blinked — the Light Gate had already reopened.
*The evolutions took that long?*
He was a little surprised, but he stepped through and left the Land of Origin.
